FAQ 135
What do I do if I want to withdraw from the University?

You may find it necessary to leave YSJ before completing your studies, but if you are considering withdrawing you should always seek advice first.  Deciding to withdraw from University is a big decision; it has major implications, including for any funding you may wish to apply for in the future.  Deciding to withdraw from University is a big decision and can have major implications on any funding you have received, as well as any funding you may wish to apply for in the future.  We would always recommend that you speak to the Student Funding Advice Team before you withdraw to go over these implications and the financial expectations that the University has for withdrawing students.

Please also discuss your concerns with your Personal or Academic Tutor and/or your Subject Director before you start the process of withdrawing.  If you are struggling, support is available and you may find that once the right support is in place, you feel in a better position to carry on with your studies.  You might also wish to consider suspending your studies temporarily rather than withdrawing permanently.  You might also find it useful to speak to the Careers Service if you are considering leaving Higher Education altogether.

If you do decide to withdraw you will need to complete the Notification of Withdrawal from Programme form.  This form prompts you to get signatures from relevant staff to ensure that you have taken the opportunity to consult them and are fully aware of the implications of withdrawing.  If you are in University accommodation, you should also contact the Accommodation Team to let them know your plans for moving out.

You should email the completed document to studentrecords@yorksj.ac.uk, and once they processed the form, they will inform your funding body that you are no longer studying with the university and will also advise them of your last known date of attendance.
