FAQ 168
What happens if I don't pay for my University accommodation?

York St John will notify you of your accommodation charges at the start of the academic year, and for your convenience, we offer you the option of paying for your accommodation by direct debit in 3 instalments, or by credit or debit card.  If your accommodation fees remain unpaid and you have not made an agreement to pay, or your arrangement to pay fails, the following administration charges may be raised:

After seven days              £20.00 charge

After fourteen days         £20.00 charge

After twenty-one days     £10.00 charge.

If you cannot pay the Accommodation Fees on the due date, you must let us know in advance so that we can agree a repayment plan with you, if appropriate. Please contact the Finance Team for assistance.

If accommodation fees remain outstanding longer than this, you may be required to appear before the Student Finance Review Panel, which reserves the right to begin eviction proceedings.  Any student with an outstanding debt is not permitted to apply for YSJU managed accommodation and York St John can also refuse to admit you to a degree ceremony, or release your degree certificate or any letter of confirmation of award until any outstanding debt is paid.  We also reserve the right to engage a debt collection company to chase outstanding debt and to add associated legal costs.
