If you are going to be living in the University's halls of residence then a £200 advance rent payment is required to secure your room. This payment will be deducted from your first rent installment that is due in October. Therefore, you will not receive anything 'back' at the end of the contract like you would a deposit. 

Advance payments for private accommodation are usually held until the end of your contract as security against any damage caused to the property. Provided you have not breached your contract then this will be repaid to you minus any costs for damage repair. Please ensure that you read your contract thoroughly so that you know what kind of damage you will be liable for and when you will receive your deposit back.
