FAQ 358
Am I eligible for a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan?

If you're starting a doctoral degree on or after 1 August 2019, you could get a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan  of up to £25,700 to help with course fees and living costs.

The amount that you get is not based on you or your family's income and is paid directly to you at the start of each term. The loan is divided equally across each year of your course.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) may take account of the loan when working out any benefits you receive.

The quickest way to apply is online via Student Finance.

For more information on your course eligibility, please visit Gov.UK.

Please note: You won't be eligible for an Adult Dependents' Grant, a Childcare Grant or Parents' Learning Allowance from Student Finance if you are studying a doctoral course.
