FAQ 388
What if I cannot afford to pay my rent due to loss of income?

Speak to your landlord explain your situation. Ask if he/ she could let you out of your contract early. If this is refused, ask if they would consider a reduced rent for the remainder of the contract given the current circumstances. This might be a good way of approaching it.

IF you really cannot afford your rent: calculate your finances, work out what you can actually afford to pay.

COMMUNICATE with your landlord / letting agent and inform them of the amount you will pay.

DO try to pay some of your rent even if that is a small amount. This is very important.

Set up a payment plan which would be the very minimum you can afford.

It is important to continue to communicate with your landlord/ letting agency.
