FAQ 155
Can I get help starting my career?

Every student starting at York St John now has a Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR). This is a report of your University achievements, including academic results and extra-curricular activities and awards.  Through HEAR, the University aims to provide recognition for additional activities as a means to support you in the development of the YSJ Graduate Attributes and your future employability.

You will be given details at the start of your programme that will allow you to access your HEAR through Gradintel.  In addition to having online access to your HEAR, you can create a profile of additional personal information within your personal Gradintel space.  This can then be used as a prompt when writing covering letters, personal statements and completing job applications, and at interviews.  Extra-curricular activities can be used as evidence of transferable skills and show a willingness to go above and beyond.

There are already a number of HEAR approved activities for you to get involved with as extra-curricular activities and one of these is the Careers Award.  The Careers Award is a collection of 3 sub-awards, which have been designed to recognise the skills and achievements you have developed over the course of your studies. The 3 sub-awards are:
