What are Tax and National Insurance and will I have to pay them?

Tax and National Insurance are legal obligations that people who are employed are required to pay.  You should check that you are paying Tax and National Insurance by checking your payslip.  Your employer should be providing you with an itemised payslip detailing your gross pay and any deductions.  If you do not receive a payslip this could be a sign that your employer is not registered for Tax and National Insurance, and if this is the case you may not have a legal employment contract and your legal rights can be severely affected.
