FAQ 209
Do you have any University accommodation for students with additional needs or preferences?

At York St John, some of our accommodation caters to specific preferences or needs.  If applying for these types of accommodation please be aware that we cannot guarantee their availability as they are subject to demand.

Room Requirements on Medical or Disability Grounds

We ask that if you have any additional needs relating to your accommodation on medical grounds or because of a disability to please let us know when you submit your accommodation using the Additional Requirements form. We also ask for supporting evidence alongside. You can find all of this information on our Additional Requirements web page. The earlier the Accommodation team are aware of your requirements the better, as this gives them more time to prepare.

The type of assistance we can offer at YSJ ranges from allocation of a fully wheelchair accessible room to minor alterations such as supplying a fridge for medication, or making sure you have the choice of an en-suite bathroom if you need one for a specific reason.  Depending on the complexity of your needs the Accommodation team will stay in touch with you and the Disability Advice team throughout the application process to make sure you are placed in the most suitable accommodation.

Please note, that although it is our aim to accommodate all students with a disability in the year of their original application, if your requirements mean that major works are needed to adapt accommodation you may be asked to defer for a year to allow time for this to be carried out.  Not all requests can be guaranteed and priority is given to those students with the greatest need.
