How can a Wellbeing Advisor help me?

Our Wellbeing Practitioners can help you in a number of ways:

If needed, they will be a contact point for you if you have a mental health diagnoses.

They may be able to liaise with the local NHS mental health services to discuss, and access if appropriate, support services in the local community.

They can work with you to ensure that you have a wellbeing plan in place so you feel confident in your ability to manage times that you may find difficult.  This will include working on suitable coping strategies and support options.

If you are managing your situation well our advisers will step back so that you can independently manage your situations, with the option of returning for support if this is needed.

Risk assessment and crisis support may be provided when needed, but please note that this is only in regular working hours. If you require urgent crisis support please see information on our website for further details.

If you are being supported by the local mental health services, the Wellbeing Practitioner will not support you directly but may liaise with your clinical team to ensure you access all the treatment and support you need to achieve your personal and academic goals while at York St John University.

They may liaise with external mental health services and University staff to ensure that support and guidance are provided to other staff supporting students with mental health needs. This will always be in accordance with confidentiality procedures.
